Supper Club No. 11 - Green Papaya Salad
A classic Thai dish, green papaya salad is also known as som tum, with “som” meaning “sour” and “tum” referring to the pounding sound of the large pestle used to crush ingredients. This salad makes a great snack or you can add your favorite protein to make it a bit heartier!
- ½ pound green papaya
- 1 clove garlic
- 2-3 red chili peppers
- 1 tomato
- 1-2 tsp fish sauce
- 3 tbsp lime juice
- Butter lettuce cups
- ½ cup peanuts, roughly crush on mortar and pestle
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- Peel and seed Papaya. Grind together garlic, red chili peppers with a mortar and pestle. In a clear medium size bowl, mix together papaya, tomato, fish sauce and lime juice; add garlic-chili mixture and toss lightly.
- Portion papaya in Butter Lettuce Cups top with crushed peanuts and lime wedges.
